Free trade agreements (FTAs) have sparked concern among many people. While some feared that FTAs might lead to a national crisis, they have now become an indispensable trade system for Korea to thrive as a trading nation in the global economy.

This course looks to provide a comprehensive understanding of FTAs by using various examples to illustrate their impact on our lives and the stakes involved. The lectures will highlight the significance of trade and demonstrate how FTAs can reduce transaction costs, streamline trade, and ultimately benefit consumers.

Additionally, the course will cover various aspects related to FTAs, including the background and process of European economic integration, the multilateral trade system, bilateral and regional trade systems, Korea's performance and evaluation of FTA policy promotion, FTA industry damage and domestic complementary measures, economic benefits of FTA trade liberalization, the main components and outline of the agreement, the content and ramifications of comprehensive agreements, major issues in negotiations, and the utilization of FTAs with foreign direct investment.

Throughout the course, students are encouraged to actively participate by conducting roundtable discussions and interviewing experts in the field to shed light on the major issues and gain deeper insights.
